One person was killed and eight were injured in two separate shootings on Chicago’s South Side early Sunday morning, according to Chicago police.
The first shooting followed two groups of men getting into a physical altercation in the Chinatown neighborhood at about 3 a.m.
Shots were fired in front of Lawrence’s Fish and Shrimp on South Canal Street, hitting four men.
A 39-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene. A 34-year-old victim who suffered a gunshot wound to the leg was taken to John H. Stroger Hospital in good condition.
Two other victims, 21 and 27, self-transported to Stroger. The 21-year-old was in good condition after suffering a gunshot wound to his left calf. The 27-year-old was in critical condition at last check, with several gunshot wounds to the body.
About two hours later, five men were transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center with gunshot wounds after a shooting in the 5100 block of South Calumet in the Washington Park neighborhood, police said.
The victims, who are between 23 and 24 years old, were all in good condition at last check, but none were cooperating with police, police said.
No one was in custody in either shooting, and Precinct 1 detectives are investigating.
