A 15-year-old Matteson boy was ordered held pending trial on charges of first-degree murder in the shooting death of a 22-year-old resident Monday, according to Cook County sheriff’s police.
Police said they responded at 8 p.m. Monday to the 22000 block of Governors Highway for a report of a shooting outside a home and found Jose Moran-Padilla, of that address, unresponsive suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators learned there was a verbal argument outside the home between him and the 15-year-old, and the teenager shot Moran-Padilla in the back and right arm, police said.
Police said they found a semi-automatic handgun.
Sheriff’s police said Thursday they would not release any additional information, such as any relationship between the juvenile and the victim or who the gun is registered to.
Police said the teenager was taken into custody without incident and ordered to remain in the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center after an initial court appearance Wednesday.
Moran-Padilla was pronounced dead at 9:26 p.m. Monday at Franciscan Health Olympia Fields, according to the Cook County Coroner’s Office, which ruled his death a homicide.
