A New York City sanitation worker died after he was run over by a garbage truck while working Saturday night, officials and sources said.
Richard Errico, a 19-year veteran of the department, was killed outside the DSNY garage for Districts 11 and 13 in Douglaston, gruesome photos from the scene show.
Sources told The Post that Errico fell out of a truck and was then run over.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams and DSNY Commissioner Jessica Tisch, who were seen walking around the scene together Saturday night, confirmed that Errico had died.
“Our thoughts tonight are with Richard’s family, friends, colleagues and all who knew and loved him,” Mayor Adams said in a statement, adding that he had met his relatives.
“Richard kept our streets and communities safe and clean for more than 19 years, and we should all keep Richard and his family in our prayers,” he added.
Errico served the people of Douglaston, Littleneck and Bayside during his tenure as one of New York’s strongest, Tisch said.
“He did it proud. I ask all New Yorkers to pray for his family,” she said.
The Post has contacted the DSNY for additional information about the incident.
