2 charge in Miami Beach; No arrests in other shootouts


MIAMI (AP) – Police have charged two suspects with attempted murder in a shooting that injured two people on Ocean Drive in Miami Beach, but remained suspects in two other attacks Wednesday, including Memorial Day weekend in Miami. More people were killed and injured in .

According to the arrest report, 21-year-old Wisdom Aute and 29-year-old Christopher Ureena are both charged with first-degree attempted murder and grievous assault with a deadly weapon. Ureena is also accused of grand theft and possession of a firearm as a convicted criminal.

Police received several 911 calls reporting shootings after 11:30 p.m. Monday night along the popular strip of Art Deco hotels and restaurants. Officials found that one person suffered injuries in the shoulder and the other in the leg. Both were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where one is in critical condition and the other has been treated and discharged.

Miami Beach police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez said Grammy-nominated rapper Dabi was one of several people detained for questioning in the Ocean Drive shooting that police let him go. DaBaby – whose legal name is Jonathan Kirk – was one of the biggest hits of 2020 with “Rockstar” and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Record of the Year. One person answered the phone at his record label, saying, “No comment.”

The shooting ended a violent Memorial Day weekend in the Miami area. Two people were killed and 21 injured, including three hospitalized in critical condition, in a mass shooting by three masked suspects outside a banquet hall near Hialeh early on Sunday. And Friday night a drive-by shooting killed one person and injured six others outside a venue in the Wynwood area.

There is no indication that the shootings were related to each other.
