Two people suffered non-life-threatening injuries after an explosion at the Santa Maria Courthouse in California, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.
A person of interest — an adult male — was arrested, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Raquel Zick wrote on social media.
Authorities believe the blast was the result of a “deliberately set off improvised explosive device,” Zick said.
People are advised to stay away from the area.
“The scene has not been deemed safe,” Zick wrote previously on social media.
The courthouse is closed for the day and city buildings within a block of the courthouse are temporarily closed, said Mark Van de Camp, a spokesman for the city of Santa Maria.
