Two gunshot victims were left in critical condition after two separate shootings overnight in the Auburn Gresham and New City neighborhoods, Chicago police said.
The latest shooting happened just before 3:30 a.m. Thursday in the 8600 block of South Sangamon Street, police said.
A 35-year-old man was standing by his car when he heard gunshots and realized he had been shot. The man suffered a wound to his temple and left leg and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was listed in critical condition.
Earlier in the night, a 46-year-old woman was accidentally shot as she left her residence by a known person in the 3700 block of South Hermitage Avenue.
Police said the man was handling a gun when it accidentally fired, striking the woman in her chest. The man, whose age was not given, was dropped off by the woman at an area hospital but left before officers arrived, police said. The woman was listed in critical condition.
Detectives investigated both shootings overnight.
