Two men were fatally wounded overnight in separate shootings in the West Englewood and West Garfield Park neighborhoods, Chicago police said.
The latest fatal shooting happened just after 1:05 a.m. Wednesday in the 6500 block of South Claremont Avenue. A 54-year-old man was discovered lying on the pavement with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to UChicago Medicine where he was pronounced dead.
Just after midnight, a 47-year-old man was fatally wounded in the West Garfield Park neighborhood in the 4100 block of West Grenshaw Street, police said. The victim was standing on the sidewalk when someone approached and opened fire, hitting him in the head. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and later pronounced dead.
No one was in custody for either fatal shooting and detectives were investigating.
