The cases against Dejan Belnavis, 27, of Worcester, and Karel Mangual, 28, of Worcester have been moved to Worcester Superior Court.
Two men were charged last week with the March murders shooting of a mother and daughter in Worcester, authorities said.
Dejan Belnavis, 27, and Karel Mangual, 28, both of Worcester, each face two counts of murder related to the deaths of 27-year-old Chasity Nunez and her 11-year-old daughter, Zella Milton, the Worcester County District Attorney’s office said Monday.
Both men were previously indicted in Worcester Central District Court, but last week’s indictment by a Worcester County grand jury moves the cases against them to Worcester Superior Court.
Worcester Police responded on March 5 to reports of a shooting in the area of 1 Lisbon St. and found the mother and daughter shot in a parked vehicle. They were taken to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead.
Security video of the area showed the mother and daughter parked on the side of the road when two men, later identified by authorities as Belnavis and Mangual, approached the vehicle and began shooting at it, according to court documents.
Mangual was arrested on March 7; he has been held in custody since his arrest, according to the DA’s office. Belnavis was arrested in San Diego, California on March 11 following a traffic stop and has also been held without bail since his arrest.
Attorneys for Belnavis and Mangual did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The two men will be arraigned in Worcester Superior Court on September 11.
