Trudeau said during a Press conference That he spoke with Biden about lifting restrictions on non-essential travel between the US and Canada. The restrictions were imposed in March 2020 at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Business leaders in both the US and Canada have complained about border restrictions, which have reduced tourist travel between the two countries, affecting Canadian business and airlines dependent on tourism. Reuters noted.

Trudeau said Canada needs to vaccinate more of its citizens before border restrictions are lifted, adding that he will work closely with the Biden administration to stay on the right track.

“We will continue to work together to move forward in the right way, but each one of us will always put the interests and safety of our citizens first,” Trudeau said at the press conference.

Canada announced last week that it would be easing quarantine protocols for fully vaccinated citizens starting in July.
