Xtra Time Web Desk: Sourav Ganguly, former Indian captain and chairman of the Cricket Control Council of India (BCCI), is a big fan of Argentine football legend Diego Maradona. Ganguly was extremely impressed with CONMEBOL’s tribute to the late Maradona ahead of Argentina’s Group B opener against Chile in the 2021 Copa America.
Ganguly posted a video on Instagram and captioned the post, “This is how you pay homage to a genius. My superstar. Well done the Copa America.
The former Indian captain has had the chance to meet the legendary footballer on more than one occasion. They even shared the pitch in a football game when Maradona visited Calcutta a few years ago.
In Argentina’s opener against Chile, a holographic image of Maradona appeared at Estadio Nilton Santos stadium with him doing kick-ups.
The memorable goal against England where he knocked out several defenders at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico was also shown and the tribute ended with the Argentine striker balancing the ball on his head with “1960 to l ‘infinite’ written above.
Maradona died at the age of 60 on November 26 last year after suffering a heart attack. He was hospitalized in early November after complaining of low morale and fatigue.
