DELAND, FL – A Paisley man who was shot and injured after another man’s bar fight late Thursday was arrested in neighboring Lake County and charged with attempted murder.

Deputies responded to the shooting at J & J’s Bar & Lounge at 2724 WSR 44. DeLand on Thursday at about 10:45 p.m., when witnesses said a fight broke out and someone was shot. The victim, a 56-year-old man from the DeLand area, was wounded in the buttocks and remained at the site where he was treated and then taken to hospital for further treatment with a non-life-threatening injury.

The suspect, 25-year-old Justus Daniel Pumphrey, fled the area with his vehicle and headed for Lake County, where he was later contacted by Lake County Sheriff’s Office officers.

Witnesses told Volusia Sheriff’s Office detectives that Pumphrey and the victim know each other and have an ongoing argument. After a physical argument at the bar, witnesses said Pumphrey went to this vehicle and took a handgun. When the victim came outside the bar, he saw a gun and retreated back to the bar, but Pumphrey shot him several times while hitting him once.

Pumphrey was arrested early Friday morning on charges of attempted murder and shooting at an occupied structure. He is being held in Lake County Jail on a $ 30,000 bond.
