Los Angeles Rams nod to Super Bowl history with ‘modern throwback’

the Los Angeles Rams there’s a uniform look for the 2021 season, but it’s more familiar to longtime fans of the team.

The Rams unveiled on Tuesday what they call a “modern throwback” with elements from the team uniform worn from the mid-1970s to 2000, including Super Bowl XIV and Super Bowl XXXIV. The uniform is colored white jersey with solid blue figures, blue ram horn on the shoulders and arms bearing yellow. That will be added with the Rams logo on the neck and the team’s wordmark patch on the left side of the front of the jersey.

Due to an NFL rule of a helmet, which was scrapped this offseason but will not take effect until 2022, the Rams will continue to use the helmet design that began last season.

In May 2020, the Rams showed their uniform rebrand with new colors they call “Rams Royal,” “Sol” and “Bone,” a new logo, and a new helmet with a blue face mask. The design is also tied with the opening of SoFi Stadium last year.

“We’re always focused, it’s going to be an amazing, symbolic, modern building. You want the uniforms to match the style and design of the building,” Rams chief operating officer Kevin Demoff said last year. “Even though there’s a tradition and some elements that our fans know and love. I think that’s a balancing act for any team that goes through it as you progress.”

That plot was met with some contempt from former Ram and Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson.

“I just don’t like the edge of the sleeve. It’s not big enough. It’s almost like a bolt, like Chargers‘uniform, “Dickerson said in a radio interview that spring.” I don’t like the hem of the pants. I wish it was bigger. And the horn, man, it’s awesome. I mean, it’s horrible. I feel like they really took off the Rams ’uniform. And it looks like the Chargers logo. It looks like two bananas. “

By this time, Dickerson seemed to be on board for change. He came out with a video made by the team showing the running back Cam Akers checking out the new uniforms while surrounded by artifacts from the Rams ’past, including Dickerson’s spectacle images.

The Rams will wear the uniform in three regular season games in 2021: their opening against Bears in Chicago, Week 9 against Tennessee Titans and Week 10 vs. San Francisco 49ers.
