Converted Estate Office at London’s Barbican Lists for £ 4.5 Million

A newly created residential unit has come on the market in London’s Barbican area for £ 4.5 million (US $ 5.9 million). The five-bedroom, three-bathroom apartment is a new conversion of the former Barbican estate office, designed by architects Ken Mackay and Tracey Wiles.

With high ceilings and concrete columns, the home is designed to complement the classic Brutalist architecture of The Barbican Estate, a classic 1960s residential complex in the heart of The City of London.

“Although I’ve worked in the Barbican area for many years, I’ve rarely seen a property that’s this spectacular in terms of its size and interiors,” said Tina Evans, director of listing agents Frank Harris & Co., in an emailed statement. “Reflective of the brutalist architecture surrounding it, the [property] combines the latest in technology and design, making it an ultra-stylish family home. ”

An open kitchen features a long white kitchen island with breakfast bar seating built in, per listing photos, while one of the home’s main living rooms includes built-in floor-to-ceiling shelving. The overall layout of the home’s main level has been designed to create flow between the central living space, rear kitchen, guest bedroom, playroom and laundry room, according to marketing materials.

An outdoor patio is surrounded by high, ivy-colored walls, and a six-meter outdoor waterfall in the courtyard doubles as a source of white noise.

The upper level includes a primary bedroom with floor-to-ceiling windows, according to listing photos, as well as a bathroom with floor-to-ceiling mirrors, dual sinks and a soaking tub.

The listing came on the market on April 4, and information on the identity of the seller and developer was not immediately available.
