March N. American On-Time Performance Slips

North American carriers’ on-time performance in March slipped to a weighted average of 72.3 percent from the 75.6 percent they recorded in February, according to Cirium’s monthly report.

Alaska Airlines maintained its 83.3 percent on-time performance from February, which put it in the top spot for March, followed by American Airlines, which improved to 81.9 percent compared with 78.7 percent a month prior. The only other North American airline to show month-over-month on-time improvement last month was JetBlue Airways at 64.8 percent, up from 67.4 percent.

2022-03 On-Time Performance

Globally, American ranked seventh, while Delta Air Lines ranked eighth. The report also showed 25.5 percent year-over-year growth for the total number of flights completed.

Cirium for North America reviewed carriers that are in the top 20 percent in terms of flight frequency, total seats and available seat kilometers. A flight is considered on time if the aircraft arrives at the gate within 15 minutes of the scheduled arrival time.
