Rajiv Kumar quits as Niti Aayog Vice-Chairman

Rajiv Kumar has stepped down as Niti Aayog Vice-Chairman, reports PTI quoting sources. The reason behind his move could not be immediately ascertained.

Rajiv Kumar, an eminent economist, took over as Vice-Chairman of Niti Aayog in August 2017 after the then VC Arvind Panagariya exited the government think-tank to return to academics.

Kumar holds a DPhil in economics from Oxford University and a PhD from Lucknow University. He was also a senior fellow at the Center for Policy Research (CPR)

His earlier stints in government were as Senior Consultant at the Bureau of Industrial Costs and Prices (BICP), Ministry of Industry (1989-1991) and as Economic Advisor with Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Ministry of Finance (1991-1994 ).

Dr. Kumar holds a Ph.D in Economics from Lucknow University (1978) and a D.Phil from Oxford University (1982).
