A 27-year-old man is facing assault charges for stabbing his parents at their Reading home early Tuesday morning, according to authorities.
Christian Alexander of Reading is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and armed assault with intent to murder a person over 60, Reading police said. a statement. He pleaded not guilty to the charges against him in Woburn District Court on Tuesday, according to court records.
Police responded to the stabbing report at a Bond Street home around 12:13 a.m. Tuesday where they found a man and woman with serious injuries. The victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment, and police said investigators determined the suspect, identified as Alexander, had run from the scene.
He was found and arrested around 3 a.m. with the help of North Reading, Wilmington and Woburn police, according to to the reading police.
According to the police report filed in court, Alexander’s father was cut with a razor blade in the neck and wrist, while his mother was cut in the chest. They told responding officers that their son attacked them and fled the scene.
Police said Alexander told the officers who arrested him, “I just had a psychotic attack I didn’t mean it” and asked if “everyone in the house” was “okay,” according to court records. He later reportedly said: “I was just trying to kill mine [expletive] parents.”
Alexander’s mother told NBC10 Boston that her son suffers from mental illness and substance abuse problems.
The 27-year-old was remanded in custody and will return to court on Friday for a detention hearing. The attorney representing him did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
