Three people were arrested in connection with a police chase that followed a shooting late Friday night in suburban Mount Prospect, police said.
The shooting happened just before 9:37 p.m. Friday, when officers from the Mount Prospect Police Department were called to the 1700 block of Chariot Court regarding shots being fired. The police arrived at the scene and discovered that two men had been shot, the police said in a press release. Both people were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
An initial investigation revealed that two men were in the parking lot of an apartment building when several people drove by in a white SUV and began shooting at the victims, police said. Several shell casings were located, and damage to vehicles and apartment buildings was “consistent with being hit by bullets.”
After identifying the suspects’ vehicle using license plate recognition cameras, Mount Prospect police learned another law enforcement agency had located the vehicle and arrested three people after a pursuit, police said. Two guns were in the SUV, according to police.
The shooting is believed to be gang-related, police said.
The three people taken into custody faced possible charges related to the pursuit. As of Saturday evening, no charges had been filed in connection with the shooting, although Mount Prospect police said detectives continued to investigate the incident.
