Chicago police responded to a call of a person shot Wednesday night in the West Garfield Park neighborhood and found a man lying on the ground.
The victim, 36, had been shot twice in the back in the 4000 block of West Carroll Avenue and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, but was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.
He was identified as Edward Hemphil in the 4100 block of West Carroll Avenue, according to the Cook County Coroner’s Office.
No one was in custody for the shooting death, and detectives were investigating.
