A 38-year-old man was fatally stabbed during an attempted robbery at a gas station Wednesday morning in the Englewood neighborhood, Chicago police said.
Just before 11:15 a.m., the victim, 36, was inside a gas station in the 7600 block of South Halsted Street when a 38-year-old man and a younger man, 20, entered. Both men pulled the victim’s hair and demanded his belongings, police said.
The victim pulled out a knife and stabbed the older robber, and the younger robber pulled out a firearm and wounded the victim in the face, police said. The victim fled the scene as did both robbers, and both were taken into custody by responding officers, police said.
The robbery victim suffered blunt force trauma to the face and was taken to UChicago Medicine in good condition.
The 38-year-old robber was stabbed in the neck, and was taken to the same hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A firearm was found at the scene and detectives investigated.
