A 5.3-magnitude earthquake was reported in Kern County Tuesday night, followed by a 4.5-magnitude aftershock that reached neighboring counties, according to the US Geological Survey.
The quake struck at 9:09 p.m. on August 6, with the epicenter located approximately 14 miles northeast of Lamont. The 5.3-magnitude earthquake was followed by a 4.5-magnitude aftershock about a minute later, according to the USGS.
The earthquake was felt as far away as Los Angeles and Riverside County. People reported that the tremors lasted for several seconds and were felt from the high desert to downtown Los Angeles.
