Gwyneth Paltrow and Timothée Chalamet were snapped Wednesday on the set in New York City. new movie, “Marty Supreme.”
Several photos show the Oscar-nominated “Call Me By Your Name” star, 28, and Paltrow, 52, in the heat of passion as they kiss against a brick wall for a scene in Josh Safdie’s sports period pieceloosely based on ping pong pro Marty Reisman.
Chalamet was seen wearing an oversized 1950s-style suit and tie, faint mustache and glasses, while Paltrow wore a floor-length red evening gown and black opera gloves.
It was already reported in July Chalamet was in final negotiations to join his new New York native Safdie’s filmco-written by filmmaker and longtime collaborator Ronald Bronstein.
The film marks Safdie’s second solo directorial venture after 2008’s The Pleasure of Being Robbed, although his most notable film remains the 2019 Adam Sandler dark comedy Uncut Gems, co-directed with brother Benny.
Besides being known for certain eccentricities, ping pong star Reisman won nearly two dozen major table tennis titles from 1946 to 2002. The 1958 and 1960 US men’s singles ping-pong championship was among those wins, as was a historic victory in the National Hardbat Championship in 1997. The latter made Reisman, then 67, the oldest player to win a national championship in a racquet sport.
Reisman, who died in 2012 at the age of 82also had a career as half of the Harlem Globetrotters’ opening act, along with Doug Cartland, and – unlike his table tennis legacy – a more hit-and-miss history with the game.
“Marty Supreme,” which also stars Odessa A’zion, Tyler the Creator and Fran Drescher, marks Paltrow’s first return to the big screen since her recurring role as Pepper Potts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She was last seen in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame.”
