The 13’4″ great white that washed up on Cape Cod on Tuesday has been sliced up – in the name of science.
If you’re chomping at the bit to get an even closer look at a shark, now you can.
A great white shark washed up on Cape Cod earlier this week and went viral after it was towed away in a tow truck. Now, a Massachusetts Department of Fisheries scientist performed a necropsy on the 13-foot shark and posted the video on X (formerly twitter.)
Warning: the video contains some blood.
Yesterday a 13’4” white shark washed up on Nauset Beach. Today @GregSkomal from @MassDMF performed autopsy. There were no obvious signs pointing to the cause of death but tissue samples were secured for @shellspc to analyze.

In the video, a team cuts right into the shark’s cartilage and removes pieces of the shark’s entrails and collects samples.
The post said the autopsy did not immediately reveal the cause of death, but some tissue samples were collected for further analysis.
Orleans police said it was not a “typical call for service” to have to pull a great white shark off the beach and into a tow truck.
“You really never know what type of call you’re going to answer on any given shift,” the department said in a Facebook post.
