A small intruder infiltrated the White House grounds on Tuesday, prompting a swift response from US intelligence.
Anthony Guglielmi, director of communications for the Secret Service, said a toddler crawled through the fence on the north side of the White House, setting off security alarms.
“The Secret Service Uniformed Division today encountered a curious young visitor along the north fence of the White House who briefly entered White House grounds,” Gugliemli said. “White House security systems immediately triggered Secret Service officers and the toddler and parents were quickly reunited.”
This isn’t the first time a toddler has crawled through the White House fence. It was a similar event in 2014 when a small child pushed through the White House fence just before then-President Barack Obama was to address the nation on Iraq. The breach led to a temporary shutdown and delayed the briefing.
“We were going to wait until he learned to talk to interrogate him, but instead he was given a time-out and sent away with his parents,” said Edwin Donovan, then a spokesman for US intelligence.
