Police instructed people to take shelter on the spot, lock their doors and refrain from leaving their business or home, according to the RCMP, after reports at 12:26 PT about an active shooter driving a Ford pickup.

The police saw the car again shortly after 13.00

“A brief pursuit was launched, during which a police vehicle was hit,” police said. “The suspect was then arrested without incident.”

Officers and specialized units were deployed in response. No injuries were reported in the incident, according to the RCMP.

A lockout has been lifted as there are no indications of any ongoing threats to the public, according to British Columbia RCMP spokesman Cpl. Madonna Saunderson.

Vanderhoof is located approximately 522 miles north of Vancouver.
