All lanes of the outbound Dan Ryan Expressway on Chicago’s south side have reopened Wednesday after a semi crash spilled gravel and diesel fuel onto the roadway.
Chicago’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications said lanes were temporarily blocked at 9100 South Dan Ryan Expressway, urging drivers to “seek [an] alternative route.”

The crash happened just before 11:30 a.m. between 87th Street and 91st Street near the Bishop Ford Freeway. The lanes had reopened by 1:40 p.m., but traffic problems remained.
According to Illinois State Police, a two-vehicle crash near 91st Street caused a semi to dump gravel and diesel fuel onto the roadway, requiring a Hazmat response from the Chicago Fire Department.
No injuries were reported.
