Taylor Swift fans who apparently support Donald Trump launched an unlikely “Swifties for Trump” campaign on social media platform X on Friday night.
“The Kamala campaign is starting to panic now Swifties for Trump starting to pick up some momentum,” wrote an X user with 294,000 followers when that word combination trended.
“Yes, you can be one swiftie and a Trump supporter,” wrote an X user who goes by @trumpswiftie. “And don’t judge me.”
Swift was in the midst of wrapping up the most profitable music tour in history in Europe when the trend began to take hold. The “I Knew You Were Trouble” singer performed at London’s Wembley Stadium on Friday night and will do so again on Saturday. Although she has not publicly commented on the November presidential election, Swift endorsed the Democratic ticket of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in 2020.
She criticized Trump’s “ineffective leadership” on social media in the weeks leading up to Trump’s defeat in the last presidential election.
“He’s WELL AWARE that we don’t want him as our president,” Swift said.
Trump recently admitted that as much as he finds the “unusually beautiful” 34-year-old pop star attractive, the feeling is probably not mutual.
“[Swift] probably don’t like Trump,” he told “Apprentice in Wonderland” writer Ramin Setoodeh during a taped interview.
Swift supporters, who proudly refer to themselves as “Swifties,” make up one of pop culture’s most committed fan bases. Her supports Harris to become the first female president in US history wouldn’t come as a shock to many people.
Swift’s representatives could not be reached for comment late Friday night.
