Angel Reese wasn’t too concerned about personal stats Thursday night.
The WNBA rookie superstar set a Chicago Sky franchise record for most offensive rebounds (120) in a single season in the team’s 85-65 loss to the Phoenix Mercury.
But when a reporter asked about it after the game, Reese wasn’t having it.
“I know you care much more about results than records, but you set a new record today,” the journalist tried to ask, according to the Daily Mail.
Before he could finish the thought, Reese had jumped in to cut him off.
“No, I don’t want to hear about any records today,” Reese quickly interjected before the questioner could even finish the thought.
Reese continued her stellar rookie campaign Thursday night despite the loss, picking up her WNBA-leading 18th double-double of the season.
She posted 11 points and 15 rebounds, but shot just 4-for-14 from the field.
Reese put on an impressive display on one shot where she caught a high inbounds pass early in the game and was able to hit a shot quickly while drawing the foul.
Despite her personal record, Reese was more interested in discussing Mercury and the respect she has for Brittney Griner.
“She’s a great player, really effective tonight,” Reese said. “Just being able to follow the game plan was something we didn’t do.”
Reese and the Sky had entered the break on a high, toppling the defending WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces, but couldn’t come out of the second half of the season with the same fervor.
Chicago is in the middle of the playoff picture, sitting in eighth place with a 10-15 record and 2 1/2 games ahead of the ninth-place Atlanta Dream.
