Apple to release new AirPods in 2021, AirPods Pros next year, report says

  • Apple may introduce new AirPods later this year and AirPods Pro in 2022
  • Entry level AirPods can have a new case and shorter stems, similar to AirPods Pro
  • The new AirPods Pro is reported to get updated motion sensors for better fitness tracking
  • Apple generated $ 7.8 billion in revenue in the wearable, home and accessories segment, up from $ 6.2 billion last month.

Apple is reportedly preparing to release new AirPods later this year and a new version of AirPods Pro in 2022, according to a media report, in an effort to boost the wearable device business.

First reported by Bloomberg, Cupertino, California-based tech giant will unveil the latest version of entry-level AirPods with a new case and shorter handlebars.

The new design of the popular wireless headphone, first introduced in September 2016, is expected to be similar to the more expensive AirPod Pros.

The new version of AirPods Pro will have motion sensors to enable better fitness tracking. AirPods retail for $ 159 with a charge case and $ 199 with a wireless charge case. The AirPods Pro retails for $ 249.

In the company’s most recent quarter, the wearable, home and accessories segment reached $ 7.8 billion in revenue, up from $ 6.2 billion in the same quarter last year.

Apple has not yet responded to a request for comment from DailyMail.com.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company’s accessories segment will do better as more people shop at retail stores

Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company’s accessories segment will do better as more people shop at retail stores

In the company’s latest revenue call, CEO Tim Cook reiterated his stance that the accessories segment, which includes AirPods, should perform better as more people venture into retail stores and try out them.

‘I think it’s going to take some time, but my view is it’s going to be like stores going back to speed, completely up to speed, we should increase some of the accessory sales,’ Cook said.

The report came just days after NBA superstar Lebron James was seen wearing unreleased wireless earbuds. A resource familiar with the matter said DailyMail.com gave James one of the first pairs of new earbuds under the Beats brand.

Official pricing information for that remains unclear, but for comparison, the Powerbeats Pro regularly goes to $ 199.

Apple acquired Beats Electronics in 2014 in a $ 3 billion deal with company founders Dre and Jimmy Lovine. James also invests in Beats, which reportedly owns a percentage stake.

HOW DOES WIRELESS CHARGING WORK?

Wireless charging as a concept has been around since Nikola Tesla, a Croatian inventor, first proposed in the 19th century that you could transfer power between two objects via an electromagnetic field.

The charge pad contains a loop of coiled wires around a magnetic field, known as an inductor.

When an electric current passes from the mains through the coiled wire, it creates an electromagnetic field around the magnet.

It can be used to transfer a voltage – or charge – to the smartphone.

Apple is reportedly working on a charging system that will work at 7.5 watts.

That means it won’t offer faster charging speeds than conventional chargers, which offer 15 watts as standard.
