Mikel Arteta has held talks with Arsene Wenger about a return to the club.
The Gunners boss has never hidden his desire to get Wenger back involved with Arsenal in some capacity and has recently installed a giant picture of the legendary Frenchman on the wall at the entrance to the club’s training ground.

And Arteta has now revealed that he has had discussions with his former manager about returning for the first time since he left in 2019.

Asked whether a formal offer had been made to Wenger to return, Arteta said: “Well, we’ve been in communication.
“I saw him and I talked to him when we went to see the movie (Arsene Wenger: Invincible) and it was incredibly pleasant to chat with him and hopefully we can bring him close.

“I think he would have a good time just seeing the environment he can create around him when he is around this place because of the respect, admiration and the love that everyone in the club has for what he has done, and for what he has done. represents as a person in this club. “
In what role could Arsene Wenger return?
Arteta was asked in what capacity he envisioned Wenger returning to the club, with the idea of some sort of ambassadorial role being put forward.
The Arsenal boss, however, would not reveal what he had in mind, but said he thought he would benefit greatly from getting the 72-year-old back from time to time.
“I can not tell you that now,” he said.

“But what I can say is that I would like him to be much closer to me personally because I think it would be a great help, it would be a great help to the club.
“Things take time, and I think he has to dictate those times.
“What I can say from my side, and I believe on behalf of everyone, is that we would be happy to have him much closer.”
