OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Officials with Oklahoma Department of Agriculture (ODAFF) on Tuesday confirmed the first case of Asian long-horned ticks in Oklahoma. The tick was discovered in Mayes County, according to ODAFF.
In large numbers, the Asian long-horned tick can cause severe anemia in the animals it infests and carries both human and animal diseases, says ODAFF.

ODAFF an epidemiological investigation will be conducted to find out how the ticks arrived in Oklahoma and to determine if they are present in other premises. ODAFF officials encourage all livestock owners to closely monitor their livestock.
