Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz is reportedly eager to leave the club due to interest from AS Roma.

The Brazilian national team player signed for Villans for around £ 15 million from Manchester City in 2019 and has played over 80 matches for the Midlands club.

His contract expires in 2023 and was originally linked with a move to Roma last summer. Man City also has a buyback clause if they want to take advantage of it.

Why would PSG let Pochettino go to Man Utd?

The Serie A clothes were chasing a new midfielder in this summer’s transfer window, especially in connection with Arsenal’s midfielder Granit Xhaka.

Their search is still ongoing, with Luiz topping Jose Mourinho’s shortlist, according to Romanisten (via Sports witness).

However, Aston Villa are reportedly demanding a ‘not very negotiable’ fee of € 35m. for the Brazilian defensive midfielder.

The report adds that Luiz interests the Italian club ‘quite a lot’ and that the 23-year-old ‘wants to leave’ the Premier League team.

Luiz’s representatives are ready to push for the midfielder’s sale. Whether it comes in January or at the end of the season, however, remains to be seen.

In the meantime Steven Gerrard admitted to feeling a mixture of pride and relief after two late goals, his tenure at Aston Villa got off to a winning start.

Gerrard celebrated profusely as Ollie Watkins broke the deadlock after 84 minutes to bring Villa in front against Brighton.

And the former Liverpool midfielder jumped around in his technical field again two minutes after time when the Tyrone Mings scored another goal to secure a 2-0 victory.

Gerrard, who left Rangers during the international break to replace Dean Smith at Villa Park, said: “I felt a combination of things. It was a mixture of excitement, relief and pride. I could not be more proud of the players. This was a great week, a big match for the team on the background of having lost five.

“Some people were only present a few days a week. Everything we have asked them to do, they have basically followed instruction and delivered a really good performance in the end. I could not be more proud.”
