barcelona has announced the signing of Real Betis defender Emerson Royal for La Liga until 2024.
Emerson co-owned both Barca and Betis, and the pair joined forces to bring the 22-year-old to La Liga in 2019.
Blaugrana have now exercised their option to buy the player for €9 million, with the deal sealed on 29 May.
A club statement issued on Wednesday read: “FC Barcelona have informed Real Betis Balompi that they are exercising their right to bring back Emerson Royal from 1 July after two seasons on loan at the Andalusian club.
“Born on 14 January 1999 in S साo Paulo, Brazil, Emerson Aparecido Leite de Souza Jr., better known as Emerson Royal, is an attacking right-back who will join the upcoming Copa America with the Brazil national team.
The defender will bring momentum and an attacking dimension to the right wing as the Brazilian has scored five goals and 10 assists with Betis, the club he has played for since a three-way deal to include Atlético Mineiro in January 2019 ..”
Emerson will fight Sergio Dest who has established himself as the first choice under Ronald Koeman, with Emerson facing a battle to defeat the USA International.
Emerson is currently with the Brazil squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay. Defender called up after Dani Alves was ruled out due to injury
