Pop star Bebe Rexha thanked her fans on Sunday for picking her up after her tearful accusation that she had been banned from a flight in Munich for speaking Albanian to a security agent.
“Thank you to everyone who has messaged me and shown concern,” the singer wrote on her Instagram stories. “I got home safely, thank goodness.”
On Saturday, Rexha, who was born in the US to Albanian parents, described the clash as a “hate crime”.
“Lufthansa, I have been threatened because I thought the security agent was Albanian,” she said in her Instagram stories along with a video of her crying at the airport. “I spoke to him in Albanian and asked where I can get my ticket, and now he is banning me from the flight. I consider this a hate crime because I am Albanian.”
According to People, Rexha wrote of the confrontation: “He wouldn’t let me take his name. He kept mentally abusing me to make me feel like he was more powerful [than] he was. Not one of the women at @Lufthansa stepped in or said anything.”
Lufthansa reached out to the pop star and was “conduct an internal review of the matter,” the airline told People on Sunday.
“Our guests and employees come from all over the world,” Lufthansa said. “Diversity and equal opportunities are core values for our company and our corporate culture. We do not tolerate discriminatory behavior of any kind.”
It wasn’t enough, she fought back.
“I have never been so emotionally drained“, Rexha wrote in a follow-up Instragram story Sunday. “Lufthansa has sent me a direct message, but I urge them to do a full investigation to find out who this man who abused his power is. A ‘sorry’ won’t cut it this time.”
She could get on the flight normally and on timeLufthansa told CNN.
Last year was Rexha hit in the face with a phone was thrown by a concertgoer in New York who later told police that he thought it would be “fun”. Afterwards, she posted a picture of herself with a purple sheen.
