Can you pluck up the courage to try this fairground’s new brew of choice?
Fletcher’s Corny Dogs announced that they will debut their infamous mustard-flavored beer at the State Fair of Texas for the first time this year.
The beer was first brewed as part of a collaboration with Fort Worth’s Martin House Brewing for its second annual Glizzy Fest in 2023. It boasts 5.5 percent alcohol by volume, about the same as a can of Stella Artois.
The Fletchers have been a staple of the state fair since 1942, where they premiered their corny dogs of the same name. Their decision to add the unconventional beer to their lineup falls in line with Martin House’s tendency to try to defy, or in some cases violate, their customers’ palettes.
Martinhuset makes a point of presenting some of the strangest bridges to the public. In the past, the brewery has even made its own, ranging from hot dog water-flavored seltzer to a Fairy-themed beer inspired by Buddy the Elf’s favorite meal: cold spaghetti topped with maple syrup and M&Ms.
Fletcher’s has always preferred mustard over ketchup, refusing to even introduce the tomato-based condiment as an option at the show until 1994, according to its website.
In 2023 alone, Fletcher’s sold over half a million of its slim dogs. About 500,000 are sold annually during the fair’s 24-day run, according to the Fletcher’s Corny Dogs website.
