The suspect’s driver’s license was suspended pending investigation.
Boston police officers arrested a 29-year-old man allegedly under the influence and carrying a firearm on Saturday in South Boston.
At 2:54 a.m., officers arrested Nicholas Atwood on charges of assault, according to a statement from the Boston Police Department.
Officers responded to a report of a person with a gun near 391 D Street and were informed that the suspect was “weaving in and out of traffic on his bicycle,” the statement said.
Someone in a moving vehicle saw Atwood “punching several vehicles” and advised him to stop, before another occupant of the vehicle threw water on the suspect, according to police. Atwood then allegedly pointed a firearm at the person.
Officers found Atwood at 250 Summer Street, handcuffed him and conducted a pat-frisk and found a holstered firearm inside his waistband, authorities said.
The firearm was determined to be a Sig Sauer P365, officers said, with one round in the chamber and nine rounds in the magazine.
Upon further investigation, the department found the suspect had an active license to carry and had consumed “several alcoholic beverages” prior to the incident, the statement said. Atwood’s license to carry was revoked pending investigation.
Atwood was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and carrying a firearm while intoxicated, according to the department.
He is expected to be arraigned in South Boston District Court.
