A 6-year-old boy lost in a Vietnam forest for five days survived on leaves and wild fruits before he was miraculously found by local farmers on Wednesday.
Youngster Dang Tien Lam was too weak to stand and covered in dirt when he was discovered more than three miles from where he wandered off while playing with his nine siblings, The BBC reported, citing local reports.
The child, who lives in northwestern Yen Bai province, was enjoying a day in a stream on Saturday when he went up into the mountains and disappeared.
During his terrifying ordeal, he munched on leaves, fruit and scooped up stream water to drink.
He was finally seen perched in cassava bushes.
“I’m so tired, I can’t stand up, please carry me up,” Lam told farmer Ly Van Nang, the outlet reported.
“[The child told me] that when he got lost, he couldn’t find home,” the 52-year-old said, local site Dan Tri reported.
“And the more he went, the more he couldn’t find a way out.”
Once he was carried out of the forest, he was reportedly offered cake.
Authorities organized more than 150 people, including police, soldiers and volunteers to search for Lam.
The local department called the discovery a “miracle.”
