Steve Bertolino, a lawyer for the Laundrie family, confirmed the update on Tuesday local time.

“Chris and Roberta are still mourning the loss of their son and are hopeful that these findings will close both families,” Bertolino said in a statement.

The statement confirmed that Laundrie died of a gunshot wound to the head.

Laundry’s remains, along with a backpack and other personal items, were found last month not far from his family’s home in Florida after a week-long hunt that garnered worldwide attention.

He had disappeared just a few days after his fiancée was reported missing.

The couple had driven across the United States in a converted van and documented their travels on social media.

Laundrie returned to her parents’ house in Florida on September 1 without Gabby, before disappearing on September 13 or so.

Her body was found in Wyoming on September 19, with an autopsy that concluded that the 22-year-old died by strangulation and that it was a murder.

Laundry’s remains were found weeks later, with dental records confirming his identity after the body had been immersed in a swamp for several weeks.

He was listed as an “interesting person” in Gabby’s murder but was only accused of fraudulently using her debit card.
