Bo Nix made another strong case for the Broncos’ starting job Sunday against the Packers.
Nix completed 8 of 9 passes for 80 yards and a touchdown as he continues to make an impression on the Broncos’ brass.
He added 12 yards on the ground on three carries in what ended a 27-2 preseason win for Denver at Empower Field.
While Nix performed well, the Broncos’ head coach Sean Payton said he would not announce a starter after the match.
Nine touchdown throws — a 2-yard completion to Tim Patrick — came in the second quarter with 13:14 left on the clock.
The 12th overall pick in this year’s draft rolled to his right and connected with Patrick with a pass just as he was crossing the goal line for the touchdown.
Nix also led the Broncos down the field for a field goal on their first possession, though he missed a chance for a touchdown when a throw originally ruled a TD was overturned after it was reviewed.
The rookie had been over the goal line when he threw the ball, negating the potential touchdown.
It was a far cry from the game former Jets first-round pick Zach Wilson had Sunday night against Green Bay.
Wilson, who was traded by the Jets to the Broncos in April, went 2-for-6 for 29 yards and was sacked twice for a loss of 13 yards — including one for a safety.
Jarrett Stidham went 7-for-11 for 65 yards and threw a pick.
Earlier this week, Payton praised Wilson for how he responded to his coaching.
“I like what I’m seeing. That’s one of the benefits of bringing someone like him here,” Payton said. according to the Denver Broncos on SI.
