A 26-year-old cyclist clung to life on Saturday after an early morning ride crash with a Toyota in Brooklyn, police said.
The bicyclist was heading west on Hart St. when he blew past a stop sign on Evergreen Ave. in Bushwick at 2:45 a.m., police said.
A second later, he collided with a black Toyota heading north on Evergreen Ave., they said.
The cyclist was thrown from his bike and found sprawled on the asphalt with a severe head injury. EMS took him to Kings County Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Saturday.
The 36-year-old Toyota driver was taken to the same hospital with minor injuries, police said.
No charges were immediately filed.
Saturday’s crash comes in the middle of an easy rise in fatal collisions in the city.
As of Thursday, the NYPD had investigated 187 traffic deaths this year, one more than last year.
While deaths of traditional cyclists have fallen by one, from six to five, and e-bike deaths from 18 to 12 this year, there has been a 26% increase in fatal pedestrian strikes, police said.
Authorities had investigated 85 pedestrian deaths as of Thursday, 18 more than the 67 reported this time last yearsaid the police.
