NEWTOWN, Conn. (CBSNewYork) — CBS2 remembers a pioneer in broadcast television who was part of our family.
Hank Mahler, a GIS research engineer for 60 years, invented the familiar color bars. These bars are used to calibrate TV monitors and verify signal paths.
It was also part of the CBS technology group, which designed the first loudness meter as well as slow motion and frozen frame technology.
Mahler died in Newtown at the age of 84. We all owe a lot to Hank on TV.
