National Weather Service officials said there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Friday, while expecting high temperatures in the mid-80s.
Current conditions at both Chicago airports are mostly cloudy with a high of 74 degrees.
Officials said there is a slight chance of showers and scattered thunderstorms Friday morning in parts of north-central and northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana. Scattered thunderstorms could re-emerge east of I-55 Friday afternoon, officials said. There was a chance some of the storms would be strong to severe with damaging winds of up to 60 mph and hail up to an inch in diameter, officials said.
After 3pm on Friday, officials said there was a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms with wind gusts of up to 10 km/h. Officials also said there was a 20 percent chance of showers before 10 p.m. Friday.
During the Labor Day weekend, Sunday and Monday, officials expect swimming to become dangerous at the beaches of southern Lake Michigan.
