Charges were pending Wednesday against a security guard, Chicago police said shot and wounded a man who was part of a group that attacked him Tuesday morning in the Chatham neighborhood.
The guard, who had a concealed carry license, was working at a mall in the 100 block of West 87th Street about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday when he got into an argument with a “large” group, police said.
The fight escalated and became physical, and the security guard suffered a broken finger before he shot and wounded a 28-year-old man in the wrist and ankle, according to police.
The man was taken in serious condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, police said. No other injuries were reported.
On Wednesday, a police spokesperson said the guard was taken into custody after the shooting and that charges were pending against him.
