Several people were seriously injured and a child died after a four-vehicle crash Saturday night, according to officials.
Around 10 p.m. Saturday, Massachusetts State Police closed Route 1 to Route 495 after a four-vehicle crash.
Police say the crash was allegedly caused by Michael Escolas, 42, of Oxford.
Investigators say Escolas allegedly sped down Route 1 southbound in a Jeep Grand Cherokee, which he allegedly stole from the Gillette Stadium parking lot.
Police say the Escolas allegedly rear-ended a Nissan Altima, which was occupied by a family of 6, including a couple and their four children. They were all taken to an area hospital, where the 10-year-old was later pronounced dead, according to officials.
The child’s identity has not been released at this time.
The authorities were working on Kenny Chesney concert at Gillette Stadium before responding to the stage, according to NBC10 Boston.
Escolas was arrested, charged with driving under the influence and taken to an area hospital.
A total of four cars were damaged in the crash, including the Jeep and the Nissan.
The accident remains under investigation, according to officials.
