Boxing day has become a day where families spend the day shopping while brands start their winter sales.

But in recent years, some big brands have started closing on the big day to give their staff a well-deserved break.

Back in 2015, a petition went viral across the UK asking for all shops to be closed on Christmas Day with over 140,000 signing.

Although the petition did not get past the government, it made brands think twice.

With major supermarkets Sainsbury’s and Aldi announce that both stores will close on the second day of Christmas.

Plus, Sainsbury’s will also close all of its grocery stores and gas stations, giving their 170,000 store workers a day off.

Along with some supermarkets closing, the toy chain The Entertainer closes on December 26, and staff return Monday, December 27.

Some stores will also be closed on New Year’s Day, with the two discount stores Home Bargains and Poundland closing their doors for both Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
