City Bar, City Table and Sólás Irish Pub will close to make way for new concepts coming to the Lenox Hotel.
The three restaurants at the Lenox Hotel will close at the end of October, when the owners of the Back Bay hotel make room for new concepts.
The restaurants influenced City Bar, City Table and Sólás Irish Pub — popular destinations on Boylston Street, especially during the Boston Marathon. Boston.com obtained a joint statement from The Briar Group, which owns the three restaurants, and The Lenox Hotel, which is owned by Saunders Hotel Group. A spokesperson said the three restaurants will close when Briar Group’s lease expires on Oct. 31.
“We are honored to have had the privilege of operating in Lenox for 23 years, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to all of our staff who have played an important role in creating exceptional experiences for our guests,” the spokesperson said.
Lenox Hotel is instead taking operations in-house and “fine-tuning concepts, menus and branding.” But even after Briar Group restaurants have had their last day of service, a spokesperson confirmed that the actual restaurant spaces and kitchen services are not closing for guests.
A spokesperson said they will have more information about these new concepts in several weeks, so it’s not immediately clear how much the new locations will differ from the previous tenants. City Bar is a trendy cocktail bar serving small dishes, City Table is a casual New American eatery and Sólás is an Irish pub.
The employees affected by those closings — 136 of them, according to a WARN notice filed with the state — “will have the opportunity to fill roles at either the Lenox Hotel or at other Briar Group bars and restaurants in the future,” according to the spokesperson . They also added that the company did not lay off people or eliminate positions.
