Colorado governor Jared Polis marries longtime partner

Jared Polis of Colorado, the first openly gay man to be elected governor of the United States, married his longtime partner, Marlon Reis, on Wednesday.

“The biggest lesson we’ve learned in the past 18 months is that life as we know it can change in an instant,” said the police. “We are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate our lives together as a married couple.”

The governor’s office said the couple held a small open-air ceremony in Boulder led by Rabbi Tirzah Firestone.

Author and animal rights activist Polis and Reis have been together for 18 years. The governor made the proposal in December, just before Reis was hospitalized with COVID-19. The couple has two small children.
