One man is dead and another man and woman are in critical condition after a police-involved shooting in the Pilsen neighborhood early Sunday morning.
Two officers assigned to the Robbery Task Force responded to multiple shots fired in the 1800 block of S. Blue Island Avenue at approximately 1:16 a.m.
Police said they encountered several gunmen at the scene and shot one gunman. The man was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Another man and woman were found in a nearby vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. Both victims were taken to hospital in critical condition.
Police say the man killed by the officers was one of the people who hit those victims.
Both officers were taken to an area hospital for observation. One police officer suffered minor injuries.
The investigative team was on scene Sunday morning to investigate the shooting.
The use of force by the officers is also being investigated by the civil police accountability. Both officers will have routine administrative duties for at least 30 days.
The incident is the second shooting investigated by COPA this weekend. A The police opened fire during a traffic stop at a vehicle wanted in connection with a homicide in the New City neighborhood Friday night, Chicago police said.
