Donald Trumps critics are blasting him after the former president hinted that he may withdraw from the debate scheduled for September 10 against vice president Kamala Harris.
Trump late Sunday night fired off a rant directed at debate host ABC about his Truth social website, calling the network “FAKE NEWS” and attacking some of its personalities by name.
“Where’s Liddle’ George Slopadopolus Hangin’ Now?” he wrote, probably referring to George Stephanopouloshost of “This Week” and co-host of “Good Morning America.”
Stephanopoulos is not one of the moderators of the debate.
He also complained that ABC has a “so-called panel of Trump haters.”
“Why would I debate Kamala Harris on that network?” he wrote. “Keep your eyes open!!!”
The debate was initially supposed to be between him and the president Joe Biden. Since Biden left the race and Harris took over the ticket, Trump has faltered in the debate.
CNN’s Kaitlan Collins told Bill Maher on Friday that Trump was looking for an out, saying, “he really doesn’t want to do it” and calls whether it happens “an open question”.
On Sunday night, Trump seemed to suggest he might not — and his critics mocked him for it:
He is a total coward. It will be very embarrassing for him if he drops out. It’s embarrassing that he’s even considering it. https://t.co/EturpWlzJo
