Barstool founder Dave Portnoy has long had his flag planted on Caitlin Clark Island, and now he’s making a financial investment in it.
Portnoy on Sunday announced his latest bet, a $100,000 bet on the Indiana Fever at 100/1 odds to become the WNBA champions who would win $10 million at DraftKing’s Sportsbook.
“Caitlin Clark is a top 3 player in the league. Maybe the best” Portnoy said in a tweet, along with a screenshot of his betting slip. “She got rest for the first time in a year. Ayliah Boston and her chemistry is growing every game. They started 1-8. 10-7 since then and improving. I had to do it.”
The Fever enter the second half with an 11-15 record, ranked seventh in the league.
They are 6.5 games out of the fourth seed but only half a game out of the sixth seed.
But, as Portnoy notes, Indiana has overcome what could have been a season-defining 1-8 start and had been playing much-improved basketball leading into the break.
The WNBA’s trade deadline is fast approaching, so these odds will rise and fall based on their decisions to acquire talent around Boston and Clark.
Clark, after some early inconsistency, has rounded into form.
She is averaging 17.1 points, 8.2 assists and 5.8 rebounds per game.
Portnoy has enjoyed placing future bets throughout the various sports seasons and recently enjoyed being one of the hottest players on the planet, after winning $5.4 million during Master’s Week in Aprilincluding several wins backing Scottie Scheffler.
This isn’t the first time he’s bet on Clark, after betting and losing $25,000 on Clark and the fever to win her WNBA debut.
Portnoy has also been a fan of Clark’s since she was in college for whom he also recently crushed the Olympic Committee kicked her off the team.
