Anaheim (CBSLA) – David Steven Abbott, 30, has been arrested on suspicion of killing 70-year-old Rahmatullah “Davey” Yagoubi and injuring another man in Anaheim on Monday.
“He was a friend of mine, a very sweet old gentleman,” said Yaghoubi’s neighbor Danny Harrower. “He would always greet me when I was walking my dogs and my child. He would always give me figs from his fig tree.”
According to police, officers responded at around 12:20 pm on Monday at the intersection of Catalpa and Falmouth avenues for a report of an attack outside a home. When officers arrived, they took Abbott into custody.
According to the police, the officers then found Yaghoubi, who was suffering from a serious head injury. He was taken to a local hospital where he died due to injuries.
Detectives also said Abbott was suspected of assault and battery about 20 minutes earlier. In that incident, a 60-year-old man suffered minor injuries before Abbott allegedly fled the scene.
Police said the attacks appeared to be unprovoked and sudden.
At the time of the attacks, police said Abbott was out on bail for a May 15 arrest on charges of assault with a deadly weapon. He remained in custody Monday night in return for $2 million bail.
Anyone with knowledge of the attacks, or who may have been the victim of a similar attack, was asked to contact police at 714-321-3669.
